Get to know the waconah team
Close to two decades ago, while working in the now infamous dot com industry Chris Mulhern was pursuing his main passion on nights and weekends building and developing real estate. After the bubble burst, he started building houses full time. After a few years, he talked to his two lead craftsman and started Waconah Construction. In March of 2000, Chris moved from Boston to Los Angeles… HELLO sunshine! From there, begins the Venice Beach office of the new Waconah Construction.
The Waconah Team
Chris is a Mechanical Engineer that designed jet engine systems for GE Aircraft and Pratt & Whitney before returning to school to earn his MBA. After starting a few small and successful businesses, he decided to take his knowledge of building and technology to the construction world and do what he enjoyed most – building amazing homes and enjoying the outdoors. Chris began his building career in 1995 and has been learning ever since on how to economically integrate technology into homes. In the past three years, he has focused on “green building” specializing in energy and water efficiency.
Quality will be delivered — even where you can’t see it or may never know about it.
Some contractors try to make a little extra money by cutting corners. With Waconah Construction, you can have peace of mind knowing that we use the most robust building options. While we will be glad to explain these quality details, all you need to know is that while your friends and family are complementing your home, you will know that what they don’t see is even more impressive and valuable. — Chris Mulhern

I did a major ground up residential project with Waconah Construction. I met with a number of different contractors, but when I met Chris and David, I knew this was the team I was going with. These guys are fantastic to work with. They are knowledgeable, honest and care about the details of the project. Building is not a simple endeavor, and there were certainly scheduling challenges along the way...But the Waconah team handled every challenge with professionalism, and in the end, complete integrity. I highly recommend this team, and would work with them again in a second. Thank you to the entire organization. Our home is stunning and people stop to comment all day long.
Waconah Construction was recommended to me by my realtor following the sale of our home, a fixer upper in Brentwood. Chris came to the house and immediately set my mind at ease as I showed him the work to be done. I was worried the work would be complicated and break the bank but Chris assured me it was all possible within our budget. From the first day the crew arrived to the last day, everyone on Chris’s team was a joy to work with - hardworking and respectful. Chris went above and beyond to stand behind his work and make sure we were taken care of. For example, they had to turn the water off to fix a corroded pipe that connected to the water main. The fix took two days and so Chris put us up in a hotel room for the night so we’d have running water. We did miscommunicate on when the work would be done but Chris rallied to make sure we were moved in by Christmas, with the non urgent items to be competed after the New Year. Overall we’re happy with the quality of work and recommend Waconah Construction to others.
I hired Waconah Construction for a project right here in Culver City California and I must say that the quality of construction is absolutely amazing not only are they clean and neat. But their professionalism over looking every detail aspect of my construction project Coordinating materials-labor and scheduling was just a pleasure for me being that we are general contractors in the business for over 40 years I will definitely be using this construction company again in the future.
The team at Waconah Construction is exceptional. From the initial bidding process (on time!) to substantial completion they were communicative, organized and professional. They stayed on track (and kept me informed) with time, budget, and selections. I highly recommend Waconah Construction and look forward to working with them in the future.
My wife and I saw the excellent and detailed work that Chris did (online and in person at the job-site) and asked him to provide us with a bid for our new construction. Chris’ bid was very detailed and professionally done. He contacted us and set-up an appointment to view the job-site with his contractors right away and submitted his bid within the deadline. During the bidding process, we had some questions about the project and reached out to Chris. He returned our phone calls promptly and provided answers and possible solutions to all our questions. He also provided valuable guidance. Chris took the time to meet with us and go through the bid, which we found to be very helpful. Although we did not move forward with the project, we highly recommend him.
I had Waconah/Chris bid on a project about 6 years ago - foolishly, I selected someone with a higher bid, which turned out to be a disaster. Since then, however, he's been very generous with his time and advice, providing insight into a few potential projects at no cost. Most recently, I reached out to Chris for a small renovation project. This time around, he passed on me, but generously recommended someone on his team who was branching out and starting his own GC business. Chris was afraid I'd get overcharged by someone else, and wanted to make sure I was taken care of. The project is nearing completion, and Chris's recommendation has been diligent, honest, responsive, and generally terrific to work with. I'm very grateful for Chris's help, and look forward to working with Waconah one day to build my family home.
We used Waconah for a "scrape and build" remodel in Mar Vista (the Keeshen project on the Houzz site). The house came out great, and Chris, Gerardo and David were very willing to work with us when issues arose. It was a very modern design with complicated features, and they were willing to talk things through with me and our architect in order to get things done.
Chris and the crew at Waconah Construction have been a pleasure to work with and a valuable resource in planning my home remodel. Even though I have not yet hired Waconah to complete my extensive remodel, Chris submitted the lowest bid and has continued to help me refine the project so that it stays within my budget. He has provided invaluable advice throughout the process, and even provided referrals to subcontractors along the way. If you want someone who is highly professional and eager to assist, look no further.
Look no further for a contractor! I worked with Chris on our house renovation and couldn't be happier with the overall process and of course the final product. On previous projects we've worked with other contractors that were fine, but when a friend provided a glowing recommendation for Chris we thought now was the time to work with him, and we are thrilled that we did. Chris provided a well thought-out game plan for our renovation, walked us through a variety of options to consider with pros and cons for each, updated us on a regular basis during the job, was easily and quickly accessible for questions big and small, and kept a positive and enthusiastic vibe during the entire effort. Unlike previous experiences, Chris was very clear on costs and timings when we changed our mind a few times, proactively provided suggestions to help our budget go further, and delivered an amazing final product that gets rave reviews on a regular basis with friends and family. I would highly recommend working with Chris and his team who are the best of the business. Great people, experienced, smart and ready to put in the hard work to make dreams become a reality. When it comes time for our next project we know exactly who we are going to call, and confidently know we'll be in great hands. Don't look any further, Chris and his team are the only ones to call to create something magical for your own home.
